Measuring Bicycle Wheels

measuring bicycle wheels

    bicycle wheels
  • (bicycle wheel) the wheel of a bicycle

  • (Bicycle ("Wheel")) A straight from Ace to Five. A "low" straight.

  • (Bicycle Wheel) The assembly containing the rim, spokes, and hub.

    measuring
  • Ascertain the size and proportions of (someone) in order to make or provide clothes for them

  • measurement: the act or process of assigning numbers to phenomena according to a rule; "the measurements were carefully done"; "his mental measurings proved remarkably accurate"

  • (measure) how much there is or how many there are of something that you can quantify

  • Be of (a specified size or degree)

  • Ascertain the size, amount, or degree of (something) by using an instrument or device marked in standard units or by comparing it with an object of known size

  • (measure) any maneuver made as part of progress toward a goal; "the situation called for strong measures"; "the police took steps to reduce crime"

Measuring center-to-flange (rear)

Measuring center-to-flange (rear)

For the rear hub, the center to flange measurement is trickier than the front, because the distance is typically different for each flange (i.e., the hub is asymmetrical). So getting the right measurement is tough. Happily, though, on this type of Phil Wood hub, the center-to-flange distance is symmetrical on the rear hub. So, again, all we have to do is measure the flange-to-flange distance and divide by two.

If you don't have a symmetrical hub (and you probably don't), things get slightly complicated. You need to measure the distance of each axle edge to the center of each flange, and then you need the overall length of the hub, from each axle edge. For the flange to center distance for each side, take the overall length of the hub, divide by 2, and then subtract the axle to flange length for that side.

Time.

Time.

Time. A photograph as metaphor or plain realism it all depends how you look at it.
"What is time?"
One can measure time and treat it as a geometrical dimension, such as length, and perform mathematical operations on it. It is a scalar quantity and, like length, mass, and charge, is usually listed in most physics books as a fundamental quantity. Time can be combined mathematically with other fundamental quantities to derive other concepts such as motion, energy and fields.
