History Alive in the Tetons

History Alive in the Tetons

Today's post takes me back to our trip to Grand Tetons National Park in the fall of 2010. We actually flew into SLC and drove up to Yellowstone NP, then timed our travel in the Tetons just in time for the fall colors.

Named "The Most Photographed Barn in America", the T A Moulton Barn sits on the western end of Mormon Row in the Antelope Flats area between the towns of Kelly & Moose.

The barn was an early homestead of Thomas Alma Moulton & sons between 1912-1945. The Mormon Row area was settled by Mormon homesteaders from Idaho in the 1890's. There were 27 homesteads in total, most of which are no longer standing.

Of course, a visit to Grand Tetons NP wouldn't be complete without visiting the barn and taking an obligatory image or two, but for us, it was even more special.
Located to the left of the barn are the Moulton Ranch Cabins, which are owned and operated by descendants of TA Moulton, on a parcel of land that they have yet to sell to the NPS. It's a fascinating place with the most amazing "backyard" ever! :-) Plus the added bonus of being within yards of this historic barn! But probably the best of all reasons we enjoyed it was to meet it's owners and hear and read all about the area and the history behind it.

Most photographers flock to the barn to catch it as the early light hits the Teton Range in the distance. To be honest, after staying there, it really didn't seem to have a "bad" time to shoot it. Every image, though very recognizable, has a take of it's own and it certainly changes with the seasons as well.

Hard to believe that it's been over 1 year since we visited the area, yet this is the first image I've posted of the actual famous barn. Goes to show the overall beauty of the area.

Thanks for stopping by to view and leave your comments. We certainly do appreciate them. Hope that everyone had a great weekend!

History of Malta Sovenir!

History of Malta Sovenir!

Usually this time of year I am tearing around the beautiful Islands of Malta on my annual vacation. Alas my hope for a final visit to Malta this year was not to be, so today's pic is a sovenir ashtray that I bought last year in Malta. The history depicted on this ashtray mostly represents the period between 1530-1798 when Malta was governed by the Knights of the Order of St. John, with no reference to the brief French occupation in 1798 and subsequent 165-years of British rule until Malta finally gained it's Independence in 1964. I have edited this pic with Orton-ish and selective softening on Picnik.
